   Hurricane Matthew Update

Dear Valued Customer,

we work diligently to continue business with minimal interruption following Hurricane Matthew’s disruption. We have reactivated our normal channels of contingency communications, and will continue to deliver advisories to you on a daily cadence until further notice.

As a follow-up to yesterday’s communication, we would like to provide you with the following update (as of 4:56 pm EST today):

Port Operations

Freeport: The port at Freeport has experienced significant damage and is closed until further notice. Optional transshipment ports are being reviewed.

Savannah: Terminal open for normal operations, but channel remains closed for navigation

Hurricane Matthew left the port at Savannah with misplaced buoys and due to high winds and swell, the U.S. Coast Guard has been unable to reset the buoys. Maersk Line is awaiting USCG updates for plans to reset buoys and berth ships. Contingencies involving ships scheduled to call SAV (including berthing schedules) will be finalized once the port confirms its reopening date and time.

Miami: Open for normal operations

Port Everglades: Open for normal operations

Jacksonville: Open for normal operations

Charleston: Open for normal operations

Wilmington: Open for normal operations

Norfolk: Open for normal operations

Vessel Operations

Vessel schedules of ships scheduled to call SAV and FPO will be finalized and communicated once the ports confirm reopening dates and times. Maersk Line Marine Operations is working with port and local staff to expedite this process. Expect more detailed information as confirmations are shared.

Rail Service

CSX

  • CSX confirmed plans to open the route to Charleston and Savannah this evening for train movement toward the coast. Traffic that was staged in route to destination will resume movement toward CHS and SAV this evening leading into tomorrow morning. Origin terminals will begin working on clearing any backlog of held exports for outbound train departures. CSX will make best efforts to clear dwelling freight from origin in a timely manner. They will keep Maersk Rail Operations aware of Maersk volume loaded from origin and moving toward CHS and SAV throughout the recovery process.
  • Import trains from CHS and SAV will begin departures as soon as there is sufficient volume to do so – keeping in mind dependency upon inbound railcar and locomotive supply from the export trains arriving at destination after movement resumes.
  • CSX Engineering personnel have cleared the trees from washed out areas of tracks impacting service to/from the Norfolk area. They continue to deliver track repairs and estimate that they will have the lane opened for service by approximately noon EST on Wednesday, 12 Oct. CSX is making plans to call crews forward, in anticipation of track opening so trains can resume movement as quickly as possible.

Thank you for cooperation. We will continue to deliver.

Sincerely,

Maersk Line
